Enjoy riverside strolls along the River Colne and access to several fantastic nature reserves and gardens including Cockaynes Wood. The wood is an ancient woodland mentioned in the Doomsday Book and home to a variety of birdlife including barn owls.
New for 2022 is the fantastic Wyvernwood, an enchanted adventure park set in peaceful woodland. Providing a perfect day out for families with children aged 2 to 12.
Beth Chatto Gardens are less than ten minutes away. The beautiful collection of informal and inspirational gardens were created by award winning gardener, author and lecturer Beth Chatto in the 1960s.
Also close by is Essex Wildlife Trust's Fingringhoe Wick, a set of quarries that have been turned into a nature reserve and form part of the Colne Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest. Enjoy walking trails and spotting wildlife. There is also a dog-friendly route.

Foodies and beach lovers alike will enjoy a trip to Mersea Island, the home of the native oyster. The pastel beach huts on the sandy beach make fantastic photos.
Alternatively, head to the coast at Clacton-on-Sea, less than ten miles away, to discover the beaches as well as plenty of entertainment, from an amusement park to a pavilion and pier, making this a great way to spend a day when the sun is shining.
Closer still is the pretty waterfront at Wivenhoe. Wivenhoe has a rich history including fishing and smuggling. Today you'll find a picturesque harbour where fishing boats peacefully bob up and down.
Seven miles away, the historic town of Colchester offers a wider range of amenities and eateries, as well as an impressive 12th century castle, built on the foundations of a Roman temple, and there are many remains of Roman architecture still present in the town, including the remains of a theatre in the Dutch Quarter. Stroll the park that surrounds the castle and pay a visit to Hollytrees Museum. For kids and big-kids alike you will find one of the best zoos in England; Colchester Zoo, just 5 minutes outside of the town centre.

The protected Area of Natural Beauty of Constable Country is a short drive away. Soak up the river views and enjoy stunning walks all year round. During the warmer months you can hire boats and row the River Stour from Dedham to Flatford Mill.
If you're craving something a little bigger the exciting city of Chelmsford is just half an hour away. Or, you can catch the mainline train and be in London within an hour. Alresford is the perfect base for discovering the whole of the South East.
